Party City Survives Halloween Crunch
The employees at Party City in Springfield have their own pet name for Halloween every year.
"We call this our 'Black Friday,'" said third year cashier Kaley Prier. |
The lines are long as parents and kids alike look for just the right costume.
"We have lines that wrap around our aisles with a 45 minute wait, and every year we get the same crowd," said Party City manager Nicole Troutman. "Our employees dress up in costumes and the customers love it." Prier said this year's top costumes for kids included Ninja Turtles for boys, which sold out with every shipment, and princesses for little girls. As for adults? "Batman was super popular," said Prier. |
The store also sells candy, face paint, props, balloons, anything to accent a Halloween party.
Getting into a costume can be as cheap as ten bucks, but some of the fancier outfits run over 90 dollars. Troutman said on average kids were spending around 30 dollars per costume and adults around 50. "It's easy to say Halloween here is extremely stressful, but it also extremely rewarding," said Prier. "We sell not only costumes, but we turn people into characters." |
